M y mind is blown! I have been just scratching the surface on how CICO misses the full picture and you sir have humbled me and blown me away!! Thank you! Would you be willing to come on my podcast to discuss this? 🤔
Thank you, Leslie, and what a lovely/hopeful journey you've had with IF. Keep spreading the gospel! I'm about to do a 3 day FMD starting tomorrow. The process works!
Great summary on CICO & why the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics does not apply. The body's "exquisite" regulatory mechanisms are the key.
IMHO (summary from others), there's 3 times humans should be healthily insulin resistant [IR]:
1. Growing a baby.
2. Growth spurt.
3. Preparing for Siberian winter hibernation (with the potential of 2-3 months of starvation if old man winter delays his cold retreat in the spring.)
Besides the usual relationship of obesity & IR, there's also the hidden TOFI (Thin Outside-Fat Inside) phenotype.
Unfortunately hyperphagia usually accompanies IR, leading to the vicious cycle of "starvation in the midst of plenty." And, even more disastrously, IR affects the brain (eventually leading to T3D, a.k.a., Alzheimer's.)
Thank you, Captain! Agree with this as well. Growth is growth--it's in a general sense neither good, nor bad. Sometimes, it's good and normal (baby / growth spurt / hibernation). Sometimes, it's bad and pathological (obesity / cancer). Sometimes, no obvious growth can happen, but bad things are still occurring under the hood (TOFI).

Thank you for the kind words, Megan! And I would love to. What's the best way to set that up?
Thank you so much! I just sent you a private message! :)
These CICO smackdowns are excellent. Intermittent fasting worked for me after failing miserably on CICO for years. https://fastwell.substack.com/p/how-i-transformed-my-health-part

Yes, it really does work 😁

Again, super summary!

Also, per Fred Hahn, Dr. Jeff Volek likes to say: “You are not what or how much you eat. You are what your body does with what and how much you eat.”
Another good one from Angela Stanton! https://cluelessdoctors.com/2025/03/14/why-calorie-counting-fails-the-metabolic-science-behind-weight-gain-and-loss/
